After months of anxiously waiting for this night to come, Fall Out Boy brought their “So Much For (Tour) Dust” to Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, VA. The sold-out pavilion was filled with thousands of “elder emos” and younger fans, making me reminiscent of the Warped Tour days with all of the neon wristbands, fishnets, and all-black outfits. It was a hot and sweaty evening but that didn’t stop the crowd from jamming along to all the performers.
First to take the stage was Carr, playing a 7-song setlist that amped the crowd up for the fun night ahead.
Royal & The Serpent were next to share the stage and although I had not seen her before, she did not disappoint! She has been blowing up in the past few years since the release of Overwhelmed which I have heard plenty of times on DC101 and will never get tired of hearing. Not only did she rock the stage with her gritty vocals throughout her set, but her bandmates also were jamming out and jumping around the whole set.
Never did I think I’d be able to see Bring Me The Horizon while watching the sun set over the horizon, but I did! UK favorites Bring Me The Horizon played a variety of hits from That’s The Spirit, Sempiternal, POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR, and some of their new singles. Opening with “AMEN!”, people who had not heard of them were probably surprised for some screaming at a Fall Out Boy concert, but I can everyone was banging their heads. Oli Sykes (frontman) decided to pay the lawn a visit during “Drown”, hugging and high-fiving fans all around the crowd.
Last but not least, Fall Out Boy themselves. The anticipation for them to take the stage while the room was dark and them coming out opening with “Love From The Other Side” had the crowd going wild. It was an evening full of their top hits and “retired” songs that many have not heard live before. “She’s My Winona”, “Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner”, and some classic hits like “Sugar We’re Going Down”, “Centuries” and “Dance, Dance” to name a few. Fall Out Boy brought the heat with the pyro throughout the whole night, lighting the whole crowd up any time that pyro was set off. The production was incredible, highly recommend checking out this tour to get a taste of what you’re missing out on. Pete Wentz played a flame-throwing bass (that’s a first!), and even a giant inflatable dog head singing along to “This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race”. The perfect end to the night was Pete coming out into the crowd during the final song, thanking everyone for coming out. Whether you are an old-school FOB fan or newer, this tour is the perfect one for you and you don’t want to miss it.
