This only being the second stop on Alt-J’s headlining tour with Portugal. The Man and Sir Chloe, PLUS with a second added date in the DMV, fans didn’t know what to expect from the trio on this tour.
The first night out of the two DC show’s was sold out, it was a packed venue. Opening acts Sir Chloe and Portugal.The Man kicked things off and get the crowd amped up for Alt-J to take the stage and lets just say they did a pretty damn good job. The crowd was ready. A giant black curtain hid the stage away from the fans, then as it was show time it then dropped displaying a massive glass like cage that surrounded a giant platform onto of the actual stage here at The Anthem.
The lights then went out, and what was super cool about the “glass” cage was it was animated so it started to make it seem as if the band members were underwater. Alt-J opened up their set with Something Good. As the band continued to make their way through their setlist consisting of sixteen songs plus a three song encore, each song had a different light display/different effects that would be going on within the glass cage. From a photographers stand point, I personally was artistically challenged by their design and let’s just say I absolutely loved and appreciated it. This show definitely challenged me as an artist.
Anyway back to the show. Throughout the set the DC fans gave Alt-J a warm welcome, they sang every song word for word and seemed to not mind being packed like sardines. Alt-J’s setlist consisted of some older material and some newer material, which they are currently promoting on this tour since they just released another record called The Dream.
