We recently had the pleasure of covering Heartist and New Years Day as they played a hometown show at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, California. As we arrived fans were dispersed around the parking lot, enjoying the late afternoon glow of the Orange County sun. Chain reaction is one of the smallest venues we have shot at, and a show of three quarter occupancy gave it some life quickly.
Heartist opened up the show playing hits from their first full length album Feeding Fiction. Being a band that prides themselves on long than long hair, the stage size made it difficult to get in some well timed flips. Heartist threw in a couple new songs from their upcoming album, currently in production, along with “Black Cloud” and “Skeletons”.
New Years Day got the crown going on a different level. The guys took the stage, complete with dark colors, black and white makeup and a macabre disposition. Ash Costelle, front woman, walked on last and the band began to play their new album Malevolence. The band played their entire new album, along with a few older tracks “I’m No Good” and “Death of the Party”. Their finale was “Angel Eye’s” featuring Craig Mabbitt of Escape the Fate. It was fun to see both of these bands in their element!
