GO LIVE: TATE MCRAE TREATS FANS TO AN INTIMATE PERFORMANCE IN NASHVILLE!

Those who made it to The Basement East on Thursday were treated to an intimate performance by what can only be classified as the future of pop music.

Wearing a cowboy hat, which would be a common theme on the night, Mimi Webb opened the evening with a short 30-minute performance. She started her set with her tune “Before I go,” which immediately had the sold-out crowd cheering her on.

While the crowd thoroughly enjoyed the original pieces, it was a cover song that received the loudest ovation on the night. It was evident that Webb embraced getting to play a show in Music City during her performance. Before leaving the stage, she sang a track with a lot of meaning to the English singer, a rendition of Adele’s “Someone Like You.” “My dad would have me play at all these restaurants, and I would always sing this song,” Webb said. “He’d always say to me that if I left somewhere and didn’t sing that song, he’d encourage me to take that chance because you never know who is in that room. It’s so crazy to sing this song now on this stage.”

After a quick set change, Far East Movement’s “Like a G6” rang over the speakers, and as that song closed, the lights went down for Tate McRae. The backdrop lit up before the singer appeared to read T8 as McRae and her backup dancers walked on stage. Those dancers would join McRae for several songs on the night. However, the Canadian singer was left on her own and her backing band for a large portion of the performance.

With a debut album still in the works, McRae’s set featured 15 songs, lasting a total of 55 minutes. While it wasn’t a long set, it was very intimate and allowed the fans to connect more with the up-and-coming pop singer. McRae detailed the writing that went into several of her tracks throughout the night, including her popular song, “Feel Like Shit.”

“I had just moved to LA for the first time, and I got my first apartment,” McRae explained. “Then, all of a sudden, I was expected to write my debut album, and of course, I went through my first real heartbreak at the time. So, I had no idea how to write about it, which is ironic since I always write songs about heartbreak. One day, I came to the studio, and I told everybody how I felt, saying, ‘I feel like shit.’”

After dancing through most of her set, McRae slowed things down during the middle of her performance, grabbed a stool, and sat and sang three of her tracks. Included in that mix was a cover of The Script’s “Breakeven” that received quite the cheer from the Nashville audience.

The energy picked up shortly when the singer closed out the night with three fan favorites in a row. She opened the last portion of her set with “Rubberband,” a bouncy song with some crowd members jumping up and down. Before starting “She’s All I Wanna Be,” McRae encouraged the crowd to be loud during that track. It’s a good thing, as she had early microphone issues during the song. It didn’t matter, though, as the Nashville crowd took over, filling the vocals on the tune. She received sound back just before the first chorus, which as The Basement East became deafening all in fun.

McRae left the stage following that track, only to return minutes later for an encore. Again, she encouraged fans to scream along as she performed her breakthrough song, “You Broke Me First.” The crowd listened, and there were times that McRae let the fans take over and fill the lyrics.

As the final notes of the track rang through, McRae thanked the Nashville crowd and took a bow. While a fun performance, it will be interesting to see what’s next for McRae as she is just scratching the surface of what’s possible.
