GO LIVE: The Stadium Tour with Motley Crue, Def Leppard and more invade Nationals Park in Washington DC

Mötley Crüe brought “The Stadium Tour” to Nationals Park on Wednesday, June 22nd. Joining them on this fest of rock delight was Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Poison and Def Leppard. There hasn’t been a tour of this caliber in years and we can thank the popularity of Motley Crue’s Netflix biopic “The Dirt” for their resurgence. But enough about why this was possible and let’s get into the show.

Just a heads up, if you want to see Joan Jett –arrive early. Joan hits the stage around 4pm. She kicked her set off with ‘Victim of Circumstance’, then for the next 30 mins proceeded to run through a catalogue of hits and a few covers by Bruce Springsteen and Sly & The Family Stone.

Poison’s Bret Michaels wore a smile on his face for the entire duration of their set. Michaels decked out in his signature bandana, sleeveless Poison T-shirt, and wide legged jeans with the American Flag sewn into the legs dolled out fist bumps, handshakes and hi-fives to the enthusiastic crowd. One of the standout moments of their set was during, Both C.C. DeVille’s and Rikki Rocket solo sets and when they took center stage for “Every Rose Has Its Thorn”, which in my opinion one of the top 5 power ballads.

By the time Def Leppard was slated to take the stage, clouds started to form but hey we wasn’t worried about a little bit of rain –at least not yet. So on with the show! The fellas of Def Leppard didn’t disappoint. Joe, Phil, Vivian and the two Ricks came to give DC roughly ninety minutes of nostalgia. Running through their vast catalog of favorites and a few new songs from the latest release, Diamond Star Halos. And….while the entire stadium was singing, yelling and doing whatever dances that moved them, the sky opened up and poured some water on us, and sprinkled some lighting. Resulting in Def Leppard’s set being cut short in the middle of “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and missing out on hearing “Rock of Ages” and “Photograph.”

With the weather being in beast mode for about 90 mins, the attendees were cleared off the stadium field and lower rafters and ushered into a safer area. There was a fear of the show being cut before the Crüe. But after the lighting stopped—the rain kept pouring—they gave the sign that the show would indeed go on! So as the soaked audience filed back into the stadium to see Vince, Mick, Nikki and Tommy aka the Bad Boys of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

As most people know Tommy Lee somehow broke four ribs right before the start of the tour. His doctor told him that he couldn’t drum and that he needs to rest. But if you know ANYTHING about Tommy Lee, you know that he does what he want he wants to do.

So, the workaround is that Tommy Lee drums for the first 3 songs, then switches off with Tommy Clufetos. Clufetos was formerly drummed for Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie and toured with Black Sabbath on their last run. After Tommy drummed on the first 3 songs—he informed the audience about the doctor’s order and then proceeded to bring out some cans of beer and a full tray of ribs which he then threw into the crowd.

The sweet part was when they also set up on the catwalk to perform their power ballad, “Home Sweet Home”–as you might’ve figured this girl loves a good rock power ballad.  IF this show comes to your city, I suggest that you go.
